20th July - Wirrapunga Grasses

Wirrapunga is defined as “grassy woodland” so you would expect a good number of grasses there. However what is not normally understood about grassy woodland is that by far the majority of species are not grasses. In fact here at Wirrapunga we have more species of native orchids than we do grasses. About 10% of species in grassy woodlands are actually grasses. The following is a list of grass species at Wirrapunga. As far as I can determine there are about twenty five species.
