Description:
A wiry perennial with cylindrical green leaves and stems and obvious brown sheaths and bracts; common in swampy areas on low nutrient soils. Flowers with two, or more usually three, glumes; fringed with hairs. Grows to height of 1m tall. Lives in aquatic zones to 250mm in depth.
Habitat: Found and thrives in damp places, ephemeral swamps, lagoons and creek banks in all states of Australia.
Care: Requires regular water or bogs. Low to no nutritional requirements.
Uses: Seen to be a major component of artificial wetlands, due to its ability to thrive in low nutrient areas and poor water quality
wetlands.
