4th November - Thelymitra nuda - Scented Sun-orchid

Thelymitra nuda

Description:
Seems to be very variable depending a bit on soil nutrition. Can be confused with pauciflora. One of the more striking sun-orchids. Can have spots which probably means it can cross with ixiodes.

Flowering:
Flowers from August to November.

Threats:
All native orchids have very special needs not fully understood. Probably needs to grow with the right micro-fungi as do most orchids.

Management:
Needs an events programme that reasonably controls competition. Most native orchids benefit greatly from assistance with pollination. This includes nuda which seems to have lost its pollinator in the Aldgate Valley, unlike the self-pollinated pauciflora which is doing reasonably well.
