Description:
Tufted perennial or occasionally with a short rhizome clothed with firm broad scales; culms to 75 cm high; lower leaf sheaths usually purplish; leaf blades flat, inrolling on drying, to 25 cm long, usually glabrous.

Flowering:
Flowers September to January.

Threats:
Does well in positions which suit it.

Management:
Needs little attention other than a haircut every few years.
