6th February - Rubus parvifolius - Native Blackberry

Rubus parvifolius

Description:
There is a bit of debate about blackberries in the Adelaide Hills (and elsewhere). The question relates to the method of seed production. To what extent is pollen used in the production of seeds? Our native blackberry seems to have solved this debate, in its case, by not producing seeds, which is a bit unfortunate since their berris are reputed to be pretty good to eat. If anyone has a plant that actually produces fruit, I would appreciate being able to take some cuttings.

Flowering:
Flowers November - February.

Threats:
Its main threat seems to be being confused with introduced species.

Management:
Likes a damp spot.
